Cultivating a culture of inclusion and respect is essential for organizations today. How Was Your Day?  is our foundational respectful workplace training course. It provides employees and managers with the awareness and instruction needed to overcome challenges like implicit bias and harassment while yielding improvements in collaboration, engagement, innovation, retention, talent acquisition, and much more.

Learning Goals

Following How Was Your Day?  training, your employees and managers will:

  • Understand the concept of unconscious bias and how it can impact interactions and decision-making.
  • Learn strategies to manage one's own biases and create a more inclusive environment.
  • Understand the value of diversity and inclusion.
  • Understand the nuances of workplace harassment.
  • Reflect on and recognize harassment, particularly in regard to protected classes.
  • Gain confidence in speaking up when a target of, or witness to, disrespect or harassment.
  • Understand the difference between harassment and abusive conduct.

Measure Success with Atana Insights

  • A 5-minute pre-measurement module establishes a baseline of attitudes on and awareness of bias, diversity and inclusion, and harassment topics.
  • Atana aggregates your learners’ responses to questions in the course related to desired workplace actions (such as reporting harassment, standing up to bullying, and applying inclusion strategies). All data is anonymized.
  • Using the gathered data, Atana Insights creates a benchmark of strengths and weaknesses within your organization’s culture and compares your results to national averages.
  • Your organization receives actionable next steps that are proven to drive real, measurable, and positive change at scale.

Course Details

The course's 4 topics are covered in separate modules. It can be completed in one session, or 1-2 modules at a time.

    • Module 1: Overcoming Unconscious Bias

      Enables learners to: 

      • Understand the concept of unconscious bias and how it can impact interactions and decision-making.
      • Learn strategies to manage one's own biases and create a more inclusive environment.
      • Recognize that everyone has biases and take responsibility for managing them.
      • Use strategies like framing, challenging, and setting aside biases to better manage personal biases. 

      Employee training time:  14 minutes | Manager training time: 15 minutes

    • Module 2: Embracing Diversity & Inclusion

      Enables learners to: 

      • Understand the value of diversity and inclusion.
      • Apply strategies to increase inclusion.
      • Reflect on their role in creating an inclusive environment.
      • Consider how to create an inclusive work environment.

      Employee training time:  10 minutes | Manager training time: 11 minutes

    • Module 3: Stopping Harassment

      Enables learners to: 

      • Understand the nuances of workplace harassment.
      • Use the "guest filter" strategy to ensure respectful behavior at work.
      • Reflect on and recognize harassment, particularly in regard to protected classes.

      Employee training time:  13 minutes | Manager training time: 13:30 minutes

    • Module 4: Standing Up to Bullying

      Enables learners to: 

      • Recognize abusive conduct.
      • Gain confidence in speaking up when targeted.
      • Understand the difference between harassment and abusive conduct. 

      Employee training time:  11 minutes | Manager training time: 10:30 minutes

    Manager Course

    Because of the critical role managers play in building and maintaining a positive work culture, the manager version of How Was Your Day?  provides additional instruction on:

    • The manager’s role in creating a culture of respect—becoming a proactive leader.
    • Managerial behaviors and their impact on employees’ feelings on
      inclusion.
    • How to help employees speak up if they’re the target of
      harassment.
    • Encouraging witnesses to be upstanders instead of bystanders.
    • How to set expectations and address inappropriate conduct on a
      team.
